Dementia and Special Needs - Sensory Gardens:
Royal Star & Garter

This secure garden for the elderly is based on a journey for residents suffering from dementia. It provides different, subtly coloured paving to give the residents the feeling that they are walking from one area to another. To add to this sense of movement, low 1.2m high gates will be attached to the arches for resident to open and close. By stopping and opening gates, this breaks up the journey and provides a sense of purpose to the walk.
The 2.3m high fence is screened by high evergreen planting, to break down its overall appearance. Added to this are seating points with sun shelter and a focal point of sculptures to view.
