Memory Points and Areas of Interest for both Young and Old
The ability to remember is a challenge to us all at times and even more so for the elderly. For the young it is not so much trying to remember as they charge around the garden, but more the security of seeing items or features that subconsciously tell them they are safe and secure.
Memory points may be nothing more than a stopping point to touch or an activity to do, no matter how simple it may appear.
Currently, we are designing areas for nursing homes that are specifically aimed at historical garden equipment and pots, for memory stimulation. Without going into great detail here, what is a basket to you could be a trug to someone else, which can be an asparagus carrier to another. A clay pot is a long tom to another person, or a thimble pot is a cutting pot to another. From region to region, garden tools and pots vary in name and use and by recreating such areas within a garden this can stimulate memories and conversation.
